{"id":8737,"date":"2013-01-30T14:44:00","date_gmt":"2013-01-30T14:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2013\/01\/30\/apmt-refutes-iron-fist-claim\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:45:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T13:45:10","slug":"apmt-refutes-iron-fist-claim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/south-america\/apmt-refutes-iron-fist-claim\/","title":{"rendered":"APMT refutes \u2018iron fist\u2019 claim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is according to Aubrey DeYoung, managing director of America&#8217;s Gateway Development Corporation (Amega), which is also a concessionaire at the port.<\/p>\n<p>The policy, Mr DeYoung suggests, has been one of trying to weaken the unions, who are opposed to the 30-year concession on grounds that it is effectively a monopoly in box handling.<\/p>\n<p><i>Port Strategy <\/i>spoke to Captain Paul Gallie, managing director of APM Terminals, Mo\u00edn, who said that these allegations made by Amega are \u201ctotally untrue\u201d. He said: \u201cAPM Terminals has not in any way attempted to destroy the port labour union.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2010, APMT participated in and won the international public bid for the 33 year concession to design, finance, construct, operate and maintain the specialised container terminal in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p>Captain Gallie pointed out that the concession means plenty of good news for the area. He said: &#8220;APM Terminals will invest approximately US$1bn in the Mo\u00edn Container Terminal, representing Costa Rica&#8217;s largest single infrastructure investment.
