{"id":8785,"date":"2013-03-26T12:44:00","date_gmt":"2013-03-26T12:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2013\/03\/26\/antwerp-wins-wpts-environment-award\/"},"modified":"2013-03-26T12:44:00","modified_gmt":"2013-03-26T12:44:00","slug":"antwerp-wins-wpts-environment-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/bulk-handling\/antwerp-wins-wpts-environment-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Antwerp wins WPTS environment award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Environment Award recognises a port company or authority that has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the environment \u2013 including the incorporation of policy, technical contribution to improving the environment and investment in new technologies and systems.<\/p>\n<p>Eddy Bruyninckx, CEO, Antwerp Port Authority, said: \u201cWe consider this as recognition for the efforts that companies and public partners have made in the field of environment and sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bruyninckx himself one the award himself last year for his contribution to the industry. He explained that the port goes to great lengths to improve the quality of water, air and soil in the port vicinity. The port rewards clean vessels and companies work hard to reduce emissions of toxic substances.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, substances per tonne of production have dropped by no less that 40% at the port over the last ten years. Last year its collective efforts were published in the port\u2019s sustainability report \u2013 which it says was a global first.<\/p>\n<p>Other winners at the WPTS this year included the chairman of India\u2019s Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Mr L Radhakrishnan, who won the coveted personality of the year award.
