{"id":9024,"date":"2014-02-26T17:03:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-26T17:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portstrategy.nfdtesting.uk\/greenport\/2014\/02\/26\/boom-to-bust-for-queensland-ports\/"},"modified":"2014-02-26T17:03:00","modified_gmt":"2014-02-26T17:03:00","slug":"boom-to-bust-for-queensland-ports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portstrategy.com\/greenport\/news\/oceania\/boom-to-bust-for-queensland-ports\/","title":{"rendered":"Boom to bust for Queensland ports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Centre for Policy Development published a report recently saying that coal terminals were operating far under capacity \u2013 at about 65%.<\/p>\n<p>The report entitled \u2018Too many ports in a storm\u2019, included a recommendation that no further port approvals be decided before 2020, and that the state adjust its &#8220;boom time&#8221; policies to ones that are more reflective of the current situation.<\/p>\n<p>The CPD findings have been criticised however by the Queensland Resources Council which says the centre was using \u201cdodgy figures\u201d and more port capacity is needed to avoid bottlenecks, particularly following approval for a major coal mine in the Galilee Basin.<\/p>\n<p>The debate comes about as Queensland develops a new ports strategy.
