It will kit out the new terminal with for Ship-to-Shore (STS) gantry cranes and 14 Automated Rail-Mounted Gantry Cranes (ARMGs).<\/p>\n
\u201cThis shore side infrastructure is essential to the development of new logistics networks and inland transportation possibilities for Italy as the Ligurian coast becomes more accessible,\u201d said Carlo Merli, managing director, APM Terminals Vado.<\/p>\n
The STS cranes are expected to be delivered in March 2017 with the ARMGs scheduled to arrive the following month.<\/p>\n
APMT is investing \u20ac150m in the new terminal with the Italian government providing \u20ac300m for civil works. It’s scheduled to begin operations in January 2018.<\/p>\n
The new Vado terminal will enable the operator to expand into the Ligurian coast as part of its masterplan to create new global supply chains access to markets in Northern Italy, Southern France, Switzerland and Germany.<\/p>\n
It will have an annual throughput capacity of 800,000 teu with the ability to handle vessels of up to 18,000 teu capacity and will provide a new logistics alternative for Western Europe.<\/p>\n
Back in August, APM Terminals acquired the Vado Ligure Reefer Terminal as part of the new terminal master plan.<\/p>\n
Its location adjacent to the new terminal means that it can be used as an environmentally-friendly intermodal rail service linked to the off-dock rail facility being constructed as part of the terminal project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
