Crane naming ceremony

Participants were welcomed by Yilport Nordic general manager Eryn Dinyovszky, and Port of Gävle chief executive Fredrik Svanbom before being joined online by Swedish Minister of Infrastructure. Tomas Eneroth.

Port of Gävle chair, Hans Wahlström introduced the names of the new cranes as Tor, Oden, and Frej, which have been chosen to signal strength and stamina.

The new quay cranes will allow Yilport Gävle Container Terminal to double its capacity. The terminal is already the largest container terminal on the east coast of Sweden, and the new equipment will more efficient and environmentally friendly container handling. The terminal’s new capacity is now at 600,000 TEUs of annual container handling with five ship-to-shore cranes, six rubber-tyred gantry cranes and six mobile harbour cranes.

The inauguration ceremony continued with a site visit giving attendees the opportunity to go up in the cranes, remote drive the new a-RTGs, and visit Yilport Gävle’s CFS Paper Warehouse.
