Terminal improvement completes

The project is part of a modernisation plan to improve cargo handling and adds around 40,500 square metres of new container storage at the terminal.

The work was carried out be McCarthy Building Companies and included utility upgrades, new high-mast light poles and a realignment of the main interterminal access road. Work began in June 2021 and was substantially completed two months ahead of schedule.

The container yard required 39,000 square metres of pavement demolition and involved bringing in 18,000 cubic metres of concrete pavement and 24,500 cubic metres of base and subbase materials.

Over 1,500 metres of utilities were installed, including 550 metres of ductile iron water lines, 550 metres of precast trench drains, 290 metres of cast-in-place electrical duct banks, and 137 metres of pressurised sanitary sewer lines.
