Technology's helping hand

Industry Database

There are a large number of companies currently supplying equipment for automated gate systems.

Terminal management programmes produced by Cosmos, Navis, Tideworks, Total Soft Bank, Embarcadero Systems Corporation (smartGate), India's CMC and others invariably contain modules specifically written for automated gate operation.

OCR manufacturers APS Technology (Portal ID System) and SAIC (Intelligent Intermodal Solutions -IIS) will also project manage the implementation of an entire automated gate system; SAIC?s IIS solution is significant in that it can also incorporate biometric readers.

Finland's Visy also sells a proprietary Iris Terminal Gate system whilst Savi Technology and LXE provide active Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) solutions throughout the supply chain.

While there are several companies providing active tag technology, WhereNet leads the way, enabling real time tracking of both assets and containers, not just at the gate, but throughout an entire terminal system.
