I Port development progresses
The developer of the NZ$500m Industrial Port (I PORT) are expressing confidence the site, in conjunction with the adjacent MidlandPort operation of Lyttelton Port of Christchurch (LPC), will become the key transport hub for the entire South Island.
Buoyed by the interested being generated in the 122-hectare development, particularly the logistics and warehousing sectors, the Carter Group is forecasting it will realise the customer benefits experienced at other New Zealand inland port operations.
Located on what is described as “prime industrial-zoned land”, I PORT shares a boundary with the 27-hectare MidlandPort, which is about to establish a road shuttle service to the seaport with a rail service due to commence early next year.
Rolleston is also the site of the iZONE business hub which houses Port of Tauranga’s MetroPort Christchurch facilities. Completion of the second stage of the Christchurch Southern Motorway in 2018-2019 is expected to halve the Rolleston-central Christchurch travel time to about 15 minutes.
