Port of Barcelona gets IoT network
Internet of Things (IoT) solutions firm Kerlink and asset-monitoring solutions company DataLong16 have announced the deployment of an IoT network in the Port of Barcelona.
In a release, the two companies said that the network is for the purposes of helping port authorities track and dispatch maintenance staff in the facility and that it will identify the precise location of the port’s maintenance fleet’s 10 vehicles in real time.
Additionally, the companies claimed, the network will let authorities respond to calls for urgent facility and equipment repairs by deploying staff nearest to the scenes of problems.
Commenting on the project, DataLong16 IoT network director Miquel Delamano said that the product’s core network, LoRa, provides a longer application range at lower power-consumption than competing technologies and was ideal for bi-directional IoT-communication and monitoring applications, with the data being natively encrypted, guaranteeing secure transmission.
“Working with Kerlink in a rapidly expanding IoT market will help us offer our customers, such as the Port of Barcelona, connectivity solutions to effectively manage assets and improve their fleet operations,” he said.
“Like IoT network-deployments in smart cities where Kerlink’s equipment is used to track assets, DataLong16’s system in the Port of Barcelona will immediately provide the port operator with insights of how their maintenance fleet is used and ways to make it more efficient,” said Virginie Bonnot, global sales director for Kerlink Advanced Services Business Unit.
