$100m development of Matamoros port
In Mexico, a Puerto de Matamoros development plan that includes a multipurpose terminal will require overall investment of $100m.
Ricardo Correa, director of port company Administración Portuaria Integral de Tamaulipas, said: “We already have three companies that have registered. Now we are deciding what qualifications will be set, so that they will be able to put forward technical and economic proposals.”
The actual tender will have been issued by the end of August, with the project generating up to 300 direct jobs.
Mr Correa said that interest in the project can be put down to the fact that Matamoros occupies an advantageous position, being close to areas of deep water.
In addition to traditional traffic, Matamoros is also expected to be asked to meet the demand for offshore services for enhanced drilling rig activity in the Gulf of Mexico. This is expected to generate a lot of activity, not only for Matamoros but for other ports such as Tampico and Altamira.
