Since the beginning of June, SOMACOM is operating TGIBOX with 4 Straddle Carriers on the container terminal of Reunion Island
The aim being to verify and confirm automatically each container move by SOMACOM to their Terminal Operating System and so improve working comfort and productivity.
This solution has helped to decrease the number of errors related to the positioning of containers on the yard by 90
In the absence of wi-fi connexion on the terminal, SOMACOM chose to use the TGIBOX radio network to communicate in real time with the TOS.

What is TGIBOX ?
TGIBOX is a hardware and software solution dedicated to Container Handling Equipement geolicalization which allows to manage picking and placing of containers. How does it works ? A central TGIBOX communicates in real time with each TGIBOX in CHE to get the DGPS position of each container at the time of speader locking and unlocking. Thus, containers positioning is converted into yard position and transmitted to the Terminal Operating System. DGPS data is transmitted via WiFi or narrowband network to the TOS.
