Maryland welcomes GreenPort Congress America
Lieutenant Governor Boyd K Rutherford welcomed delegates from 14 countries to the first North America conference.
The importance of environmental and sustainability in ports was highlighted by the attendance of key Baltimore government officials as GreenPort Congress America kicked off with Lieutenant Governor Rutherford opening the conference.
Lieutenant Governor Rutherford highlighted the pride which he and the state have in the green successes of the Port of Baltimore. He also discussed how collaboration has helped not only improve the environment but also growing the local economy.
This was followed with the keynote address from Ray Fitzgerald Chief Operating Officer of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions building upon the comments from the Lieutenant Governor. Mr Fitzgerald discussed the global environmental challenges we are facing.
With these challenges Mr Fitzgerald explained how working with their global partners, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions are looking to the future both on water, with alternative fuels, including LNG, electric and wind power and on land with their future “Green Terminal” solution.
Mr Fitzgerald, concluded his key note address encouraging those in attendance and in the shipping and ports industry, to embrace change, work together to solve the collective environmental challenges the industry and the planet face.
This opening set the tone for the first-ever day of a GreenPort Congress America.
