Russian port cuts pollution
A Russian port operator aims to improve sustainability and reduce pollution by upgrading its environmental protection equipment and modernising environmental facilities.
Sea Port St. Petersburg JSC (SP SPB) has invested in a vacuum sweeper, an additional local dust suppression system for cargo holds, and an ecological bunker vessel to ensure the safe handling of bulk cargo and minimise pollution at the Port of Saint Petersburg. Part of the acquired equipment have already been commissioned.
To protect water resources at the port, work is ongoing to implement a water disposal system modernisation programme.
In particular, SP SPB has overhauled some sections of the sewage system with a total length of more than 400m. Funding of works for wastewater treatment improvement has also been increased.
SP SPB provides services for handling all types of dry cargo in St. Petersburg.
The port can accommodate vessels with the deadweight up to 40 thousand tons and draft up to 11 m. In 2018, SP SPB handled 7.7m tonnes.
