Port redundancies to be less than 20

A UK port has confirmed it expects to make less than 20 redundancies following its announcement that it is undertaking a process to “secure efficiencies”.

Port of Dover

Earlier this month the Port of Dover said it would be making an undisclosed number of redundancies in the face of “prevailing market conditions” but has now provided a specific figure ahead of the conclusion of the process.

The port confirmed that the affected jobs are Dover Harbour Board positions and are not related to the new cargo terminal which is operated by Port of Dover Cargo Ltd.

A Port of Dover spokesperson said: “In seeking an outcome where we can balance the prevailing market conditions against the need to deliver our services, maintain our assets, perform our statutory duties and operate in a way that allows us to grow in the future, we have worked to minimise the impact on our staff whilst optimising the efficiency of the business. In doing so, we currently anticipate the number of positions being directly affected by the review to be less than 20.”
