Train service cuts carbon footprint of cargo
CMA CGM has launched a new train service which will connect a European port with a logistics hub in line with its strategy to offer reliable, intermodal, end-to-end eco-friendly solutions.
Operated in cooperation with Italian rail company GTS, the Piacenza rail shuttle will run three times a week from 8 February and links the Port of Genoa with the Piacenza logistics hub. The service, designed to be fast and reliable, has 52 TEUs capacity per leg and enables customers to lower their carbon impact by taking vehicles with higher emissions off the road.
In Genoa, the train schedules are synchronised with the arrivals and departures of the CMA CGM Group’s vessels, providing customers with a steady connection to CMA CGM’s deep-sea services.
The Piacenza logistics hub is a major industrial area encompassing the regions of Lombardia, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto. From Piacenza, rail service users will have access to more than 1,700 door locations through these regions.
