Hamburg embraces digitalisation

As an urban maritime laboratory and innovation hub, homePORT will serve as a campus for port stakeholders, academia, tech companies and start-ups with a free space to experiment and collaborate with one another to develop sustainable solutions for the maritime transport chain.

HPA port process solution head, Phantian Zuesongdham, who is lead coordinator for smartPORT, digital maritime and intelligent transport systems, commented: “The central point for collaboration will be our container campus, which will be a fully-equipped maker space located in the heart of Hamburg. Thanks to partnerships with Artificial Intelligence Center (ARIC), Digital Hub Logistics, Plug and Play as well as internationally with EIT Urban Mobility, new solutions will be supported beyond the testing and pilot stages.”

Examples of innovative solutions currently being explored include cabs offering parcel deliveries from the air, intelligent use of automation and robotics such as airborne, seaborne and underwater drones, sensors to monitor infrastructure such as bridges, intelligent traffic management and flexible mobile 3D printing solutions.

HPA will officially welcome homePORT, the recent IAPH Sustainability Award-winning project, at the ITS World Congress and Exhibition. Held from 11-15 October, the event will focus on smart mobility and the digitalisation of transport.
