Call for greater cohesion between Med ports

Cristoforo Canavese, president of Savona port authority and vice president of the Italian ports’ association, called on Italy, France and Spain to put aside national differences to boost trade to the Mediterranean.

“We need to work together with the Western Mediterranean ports and we must collaborate with the emerging ports and harbours on the other side of the basin,” he said.

Speaking at this week’s International Association of Ports and Harbours’ conference in Genoa, he acknowledged that there would likely be clashes with “national level customers”, but added that cooperation would lead to “greater cohesion between the West Mediterranean ports cluster”.

“The trade must find us ready,” Mr Canavese concluded.
