Global institute launches port cluster council

Known for its role in pioneering the Container Terminal Quality Indicator – an independent benchmarking audit certified by Germanischer Lloyd – the Institute announced the creation of the council at the mid-way point of a four-year study programme into port clustering.

The next phase of the research sees the Institute partner with the Valenciaport Foundation and committing to a series of ten Share-Learn-Benchmark workshops around at the world at ports of differing levels of cluster maturity.

The partnership with Valenciaport comes on the back of the Institute’s designation of the Spanish port as its best-in-class Port Cluster. Innovations, such as a quality guarantee and compensation scheme, led to the accreditation.

Rafael Aznar, Chairman of Valenciaport, called for joined-up thinking from port authorities, as he accepted the chairmanship of the European Chapter of the Global Institute of Logistics to drive the project forward.

“We all can and should work together with our stakeholders to try and build a well-connected relationship through a genuine system of quality,” he said.
