Turkish ports expansion plans

The port, located at the European side of Istanbul on the Marmara Sea coast, is looking toward increasing traffic: as Turkey’s third largest port it currently handles about 750,000 teu per year and aims to double that amount.

The new cranes, which will be fitted with autosteering, container position verification systems and variable speed generators to improve fuel economy, are due to arrive in August 2009 and will be joining the four Kalmar RTGs already at the port.
