RMS acquires Freshney

Port operator RMS Europe Group has strengthened its position on the Humber following the acquisition of Freshney Cargo Services.

RMS will now have operations in five ports on the Humber and will be able to provide services to clients through handling larger ships with cargoes of up to 30,000 tonnes.

Freshney handles conventional and ro-ro traffic at ABP’s Grimsby and Immingham.

RMS, which in July 2004 was subject to a £13m management buyout, currently operates at three ports in the Humber Estuary: Flixborough and Gunness on the River Trent plus the Boothferry Container Terminal and the Covered Steel Terminal at ABP’s Goole. In 2005, RMS handled a total of 46,000 containers and 1.5 m tons of conventional cargo, mainly steel, aluminium, dry bulks, paper and other forest products.
