MARSEILLES TO ASSIST COTONOUS DEVELOPMENT

Union general secretary Trevor Hanson says a sudden flood of requests for imported labour in other industries indicates a concerted campaign to “open the New Zealand labour market up to sweatshop-style conditions”.

The Port of Marseilles Authority has strengthened its links with West Africa – a market worth 600,000 tonnes of general cargo last year – by signing a co-operation agreement with the port of Cotonou, Benin. Under the agreement Marseilles will assist with staff training, management procedures and service quality certification.
