Expansion of São Sebastião questioned

A consultant has warned that expansion of the port of Sã o Sebastiã o could have detrimental effects on the highly important tourist industry in the area.

Under proposals, operational capacity will be increased 42 times, the number of berths upped to 18 and volumes increased from 800,000 tonnes a year to 25m tonnes a year.

As a result, the port would become a major container terminal hub in addition to its present use as a liquid bulk terminal.
