Motorways of the sea boost for Marseilles

The initiative (which extends an existing pilot programme) reflects the Marseilles Fos port authority’s aim to set up a Euro-Mediterranean ro-ro hub in the Marseilles harbour area.

Besides the Marseilles Fos port authority, other partners include the Tunisian transport ministry, customs authorities, shipping lines, stevedores, haulage and rail operators, forwarders and IT companies.

A steering committee has been set up to oversee future developments in each area of the intermodal supply chain, which will include data exchange systems, security, optimised cargo handling and simplified customs procedures. The solutions are also intended to provide a blueprint for other motorways of the sea.
