Continuing expansion in Baltic
DB Schenker Rail Polska continues to invest in expanding its facilities at Szczecin and Swinoujscie Baltic Sea ports in order to increase its transhipment capacity.
Approximately €22.5m ($28.9m) in all will be invested in the new wharfs and cranes by 2018 in cooperation with the port authority. Two new gantry cranes have been installed in Szczecin, and this, with the new roads and IT systems will give the terminal an annual capacity of up to 220,000 teu, more than doubling its present transhipment capacity.
The company is scheduled to begin operating the new container terminal in the autumn of 2010.
