GPA takes green gains to heart

Housing the port’s Port Police, Credentialing, Employee Health and Credit Union, the building showcases a number of environmental improvements to energy use, water efficiency, and CO₂ emissions.

Green features include solar lighting for the parking lot, capturing and reusing storm drainage for irrigation, and designing the roof with reflective materials to reduce solar gain. GPA claims the building will use 30% less water and 25% less energy than average commercial buildings.

Additionally, during the renovation of the building, half of the demolition debris and construction waste was recycled and construction materials were chosen with low off-gas emissions to “increase air quality for the occupants”, said the authority.
