Tremendous growth ahead – for some

“The crisis is over” Kim Fejfer of APM Terminals told CNN news, but there’s a sting in the tale of the forecast.

Kim Fejfer: “We are looking at market growth of over 10%” but this is unevenly spread

Mr Fejfer predicted a good season based on the past two month’s pre-Christmas volumes on the Asia/US route, and added: “This six to eight weeks are on par or a little bit better than volumes we had in the second quarter… and we are looking at market growth of over 10%.”

However, he added that growth was divided: in the medium term he predicts a zero to 5% growth in mature markets, while some emerging regions hold the rest of the balance, possibly seeing up to 20% growth.

Following this trend, APM Terminal’s strategy is to pull back from the more developed areas in Europe and the US, and place more investments in South America, Africa, Eastern Europe, India and China, where there is likely to be a bigger return.
