Transas targets shore-based pilotage
Transas recently launched its Navi-Harbour 4.3, providing functionality enhancements in radar processing, and record and play back usability, among other things.
Another notable recent development by the company has been 3D VTS functionality, says Chris Loizou. “This is a first step towards shore-based pilotage.”
A simulated 3D VTS picture is based on real-time VTMS data and enables the VTS operator to observe, virtually, the navigation situation from onboard a vessel – i.e. to look at the situation from the viewpoint of the ship’s navigator. A simulated model based on data from AIS sensors is displayed on the VTS operator’s monitor.
“The operator therefore has a tool maximally adjusted to perception of the world as seen from the people he is monitoring and assisting – the ship’s bridge officers.”
Transas has also developed a Lone Worker Tracking System (LWTS) which enables vessel monitoring systems to track not only vessels and assets but also personnel engaged in construction works at offshore sites such as wind farms and oil and gas platforms.
