Snow forces UK port closures
Heavy snow and icy conditions have brought two of the UK’s main hubs to a standstill, with Southampton and Felixstowe both shutting up shop today.
The extreme conditions have made work at both ports treacherous, according to port officials.
At Felixstowe, Operation Stack has been initiated, shutting incoming trucks out of the port. With holding areas at full capacity, no container vehicles will be allowed onto the port until Operation Stack is lifted.
At Southampton, health and safety fears and staffing problems, have hit container operations.
The snow has reportedly made the conditions at the terminal “pretty dangerous”, according to the port.
