Seaport security in West Africa
Two ports in West Africa have initiated substantial security contracts within a few weeks of each other.
Magal Security Systems has received a $2.6 million order for an integrated solution to secure a seaport in the region: this follows on the heels of another order for $21.4 million for the Port of Mombasa.
The contract (for the presently unnamed port) is for an integrated solution including a variety of security systems, including DTR (taut wire) which will be deployed on a wall running several kilometres along the coastline, gates and access control and radio communications plus both static and moving cameras.
All sensors and communications will be networked to two command and control centres (a main and backup). The system will also integrate technologies such as cooled thermal sensors and a remote acoustic hailing device.
The company believes that the spur may be compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code. The contract is expected to be completed during 2011.
