The plant, located on the north end of the port, has till now been run by the port authority as a multi-commodity dry bulk facility. However, the port is “actively looking to diversify” and expand its presence in the the market, says Jimmy Lyons, director and chief executive of ASPA.

The authority adds that with capital investment, the facility could be modified to carve out a niche market for liquid bulks or dry bulk commodities that require special handling.

The quay has 1,543 feet of berth, a combination stacker and loading tower with a conveyor system that serves the unloading cranes, plus further facilities and a bulk-material handling plant behind the wharf. This also includes three large storage warehouses totalling 220,000 square feet.
