Discounts on offer at Valencia
Shipping lines using the port of Valencia for international transhipment of containers in 2011 will be eligible for discounts on ship and handling fees, but only on the condition that they increase the volume handled in 2010. MSC will be the main beneficiary, being eligible for a 40% discount if it tranships more than 1m teu.
Both neighbouring Alicante and Castellón have had to offer discounts of their own to stop traffic transferring to Valencia.
They have cut some vessel fees by 17%, while any shipping line making more than 40 annual calls with containers is eligible for a discount of 30% for the vessel and 25% on handling fees.
