GPA’s remote control on energy management

The web-based remote control system is expected to yield annual savings of $78,000 in energy costs, through smart switching and zone control.

GPA executive director Curtis J Foltz said: “These energy management systems will build upon our other environmental initiatives to manage port operations with consideration for best practices and procedures.”
The GPA’s environmental management system encourages best environmental practices and procedures at its Garden City Terminal, the largest single terminal in North America.

Through the authority’s crane electrification, use of refrigerated container racks, rubber-tyred gantry crane repower project and use of fuel additives, the Port of Savannah claims to save more than 4.5m gallons of fuel annually.
