Las Palmas first in Spain with stevedoring reforms

The port of Las Palmas has become the first in Spain to convert its port labour company, Sestiba, into a port stevedoring management company with limited liability (Sagep).

Such a measure was introduced in July last year as part of the new Ports Law.

A spokesperson for the stevedoring union welcomed the move as one that will give his members security.

The Board of Directors of Sagep consists of four representatives, two from the main container terminals, one from the port authority and one from the stevedores.
