French dockworkers call off strikes

Dockworkers in France ended a six week campaign of strikes, having reached an agreement with employers in respect of early retirement.

This will affect dock workers, crane operators and other port workers, who will benefit from an additional two years of early retirement and not the four years previously demanded. This is being interpreted as a victory for the hard-line stance adopted by the government.
