More disputes at Gioia Tauro
The Italian port of Gioia Tauro, which earlier this year agreed to lay off 416 employees of terminal operator Medcenter for a period of 12 months because of a massive loss of traffic, is now experiencing sit-ins from workers employed by third-party companies annoyed at the way they are being treated.
Unlike dockworkers, employees of other companies are not eligible for state benefits because of a lack of work and their future remains unclear.
