First refrigerated container call at TIS

The Ukraines TIS Terminal is celebrating its first refrigerated container ship call – the culmination of many years of work behind the scenes at the Port of Yuzhny.

The first refrigerated container has called at the Port of Yuzhny

The Maersk Nottingham called at the Port of Yuzhny laden with refrigerated containers marking the first time that containers have been transported to the terminal and handled by a private investor.

This is a significant move forward for the Ukraine port and marine sector – still touched by the remnants of Soviet times.

Andreii Kuzmenko, executive director at TIS Container said to PS: “This would have been unbelievable ten years ago, but it has happened due to successful implementation of the public-private partnership in the Port of Yuzhny, the synergy of private entrepreneurship and state approach to the development of important high-technology infrastructure – including ports and container terminals”.

Maersk Line now has weekly departures of large capacity container ships from Ecuador to the Black Sea from TIS terminal.

The partnership between TIS, the Port of Yuzhny, Ministry of Infrastructure, the Customs and Border Service and other authorities is one of the few examples of a public-private partnership in the Ukraine transport sector, as called for by the President’s reform programme.
