Retail development of Port of Los Angeles

The Port of Los Angeles (POLA) has asked for qualified commercial retail estate developers to redevelop the 30 acre San Pedro waterfront property, Ports O’Call Village.

Port of Los Angeles has issued a request for a master developer

The port plans to choose a master developer to redevelop the waterfront property and enter into a long term ground lease as part of its US$1.2 billion ‘LA Waterfront’ development programme.

Geraldine Knatz PhD, the port’s executive director, said: “We are investing hundreds of millions of dollars in public waterfront infrastructure along 16 miles of community-adjacent port property at the Port of Los Angeles. We’re building a waterfront to fit the scale of the largest port complex in the western hemisphere at the doorstep of the largest regional market in the western US.”

The site includes 3,000 linear feet of water frontage and 375,000 sq ft of retail and tourism-related users. Applicants will be selected based on their vision and strategy for the waterfront site, their experience with commercial real estate projects and their experience working with public agencies.

Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles, said: “The City and Port of Los Angeles are pleased to offer qualified parties who have a vision for creating a world-class LA Waterfront, an unparalleled redevelopment opportunity that will rival other urban waterfronts around the globe.”
