New fender system from Trelleborg
Trelleborg Marine Systems’ has received patent for its new DFM (design or maintenance) fender system.
Trelleborg have updated the typical fender frame system to reduce downtime and safety risks during berthing.
The company has designed an alternative to the standard ultra-high molecular weight polythene (UHMWPE) wear pads which are usually fixed to a frontal frame. Instead, the UHMWPE pads are bolted onto two stainless steel removable panels which are then inserted into a guide rail on the fixed frontal frame.
Richard Hepworth, president, Trelleborg Marine Systems, said: “We are always working to develop new and innovative systems that will help ports to operate more efficiently. Thanks to our in house design and engineering expertise, and our manufacturing capability, we were able to design and test the new DFM system – and we’ve already successfully implemented this technology in three projects.”
The new DFM fender system allows for easier replacements. After the sliding panels are removed, they are then transported onshore for maintenance and have their wear pads replaced, ready to be used as spares for the next change-out operation.
