Corpus Christi focuses on La Quinta expansion
The Port of Corpus Christi in Texas is building on already good facilities with the La Quinta Trade Gateway Terminal, which, when finished, will provide a state-of-the-art multi-purpose dock and container facility.
The dock will be three berths with nine ship-to-shore cranes, 180 acres of container/cargo storage yard and 400 acres for on-site distribution and warehousing. It will all connect to the US roads and rail systems, the latter via an on-site railway.
The facility will have an annual handling capacity of 1m teu eventually, John P LaRue, executive director of the Port of Corpus Christi Authority told Port Strategy but would start with 300,000 teu.
“We are building it in stages,” said Mr LaRue.
Another sector POCC is working hard is energy, both renewable and fossil fuels. Coal exports from the US to Asia are a major part of this with 30m tonnes being targeted in seven to ten years.
POCC is also growing its wind turbine capacity by using its rail links, Mr LaRue added.
