Konecranes repeat RTG order
Konecranes is to supply Rubber-Tyred Gantry cranes (RTGs) and reach stackers for US based CSX Intermodal Terminals as part of a repeat order.
The order comprises four Konecranes RTGs, with an option for one more, and two reach stackers. They will be delivered to two facilities operated by CSX: three RTGs will be installed in Valleyfield, Canada, and one in Chicago.
“It’s always great to have a new customer, but in a way it’s even greater to get a repeat order,” Tuomas Saastamoinen, sales and marketing director, port cranes, Konecranes, told Port Strategy.
“The functional benefits of RTGs over Lift Trucks or smaller stacking cranes are better space utilization, improved eco efficiency, lower operational costs and higher performance. Higher performance is mainly resulting from the Konecranes’ advanced load control technology, which ensures the high productivity figures in rail operation,” he added.
The RTGs feature the latest DGPS-assisted (differential global positioning system) technology for container yards, including the autosteering feature. This keeps the crane on a pre-programmed straight driving path, improving safety and increasing productivity.
They have a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes and are able to stack one over three containers high.
Konecranes will also provide local access to service technicians and spare parts, helping to ensure an interruption-free container handling process.
CSX’s previous order for three RTGs was placed in June 2012.
All four cranes will be delivered by October 2014.
