Kalmar reachstacker fuel revolution

The prototype reachstacker is based on the adaptation of a Kalmar reachstacker and is expected to deliver significant results in terms of environmentally-friendly operation.

“LNG as fuel is a future trend within the vehicle and shipping industries to reduce the exhaust emissions. When more and more ports will have LNG available, there will be possibilities to run also other terminal products on LNG,” said Stefan Johansson, director, business development and product marketing, Kalmar.

“LNG will reduce the carbon footprint and there are also expectations on lower operation cost per hour. The demonstration unit shows up to 20 percent lower fuel cost per hour,” he added.

Elsewhere, the company has received an order from Oman-based cement producer, Raysut Cement Company SOAG, for a high capacity road-mobile Siwertell unloading and conveying system for its cement operations at the Ports of Duqm and Sohar.

The system is expected to be delivered by July 2014.

Meanwhile, Terex Port Solutions is to deliver 24 of its RTGs, designed as E-RTG variants, to Asyaport, a joint venture led by Terminal Investment Limited.

The order is the ‘first’ for Turkey. The fleet of cranes is due to be delivered at the end of 2014 and early 2015, with delivery in batches to Asyaport on the Sea of Marmara.
