The machine, which is used for unloading coal at the port, is equipped with a 7m³ double shell grab and can move approximately 600 tonne per hour.

It is also equipped with a green hybrid energy recovery system and electric drive, which saves energy in the system when lowering the boom, saving energy for the next lift. The company says this results in up to 30% energy being saved.

Kalmar reachstackers

Elsewhere, Kalmar’s technology is also in demand. The company is to supply two new generation reachstackers to DP World’s Jebel Ali new container terminal (T3) in Dubai, which opens for business this year.

The reachstackers, named Gloria, feature CAN bus technology, which will be interfaced with DP World’s local port automation system. This will provide constant data transfer of the key operating parameters from the machine including fuel consumption, oil and water temperatur4e, speed level and operating and idling hours. Delivery is scheduled for June 2014.

Liebherr STS cranes and RTGs

New equipment is also being delivered in Africa. Liebherr Africa is to supply four ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and 18 rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to Transnet Port Terminals.

The new STS cranes will have an outreach of 65m, a span of 30.48m and a back reach of 19m. Capable of lifting a 65 tonne load under a twin lift spreader, they have been designed to handle container vessels of up to 24 rows across.

Liebherr’s RTGs, which are destined for Ngqura, will span seven containers and a truck lane and can stack up to five containers high. They will be fitted with the company’s DGPS, auto steering and container location recognition systems and will interface with the TOS system providing container location and weight information.
