RTG revamp

The company is to increase the lifting height of 10 Kalmar RTGs for TPS, which is one of the two most important container terminals in Chile.

This comes on the back of a successful project to heighten two RTGs, which was completed in mid-January 2014, ahead of schedule.

Kalmar effectively increases the crane stacking height from five containers to six and enables the terminal to increase its yard stacking capacity by 20%.

Refurbishment project

For BICT, Kalmar is to refurbish BICT’s Nelcon STS crane at the terminal, which is located in the Straits of Malacca, the busiest shipping lane in the world. Scope of work includes the replacement of the electrical control system (PLC and DC drives), main dynamic brakes, wire ropes, spreader pulley sheaves and headblock.

Currently, six Kalmar teams are undertaking upgrade projects, which it says are a popular choice, in the APAC region in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka.

Liebherr cranes order

Elsewhere, Liebherr is to supply two Post-Panamax cranes for South Australia’s Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal as part of a 30-year strategic plan to boost service levels at its Port Adelaide terminal.

With each crane featuring a baseline load rate capability of 35 containers per hour, significant productivity benefits from the US$24m investment are expected.

Each crane will have a maximum lifting capacity of 80 tonnes using a special cargo beam, and the ability to lift multiple containers simultaneously.

Delivery is expected later this year.
