New Terex option for operators
Terex Port Solutions is giving terminal operators another option for handling vessels up to post-Panamax class with a high tower variant of its diesel-electric Gottwald Model 5 harbour crane.
Launched at TOC Europe this week, the new tower variant has been extended by 4.3m compared to the short tower design. As a result, the height of the boom pivot point has been increased from 16.7m to 21m and the viewing height of the crane driver from 22m to 26.3m.
Terex developed the variant in response to terminal operator feedback, explained Andreas Moeller, sales director, harbour cranes. “The Model 5 crane was well received by customers from the start. However, several terminal operators also expressed to us that they would like a Model 5 harbour crane that is even more flexible in terms of applications than the crane in its current short tower configuration.”
“With the new variant, we are now proving that we can also adapt these products just as quickly and consistently to specific new situations,” he added.
Brazilian solution
Elsewhere, Terex is to supply Brazilian fertiliser manufacture Yara Brasil Fertilizantes with a system solution for unloading raw materials.
Two Terex Gottwald Model 6 portal harbour cranes in the G HSK 6448 B four-rope-grab variant and two Terex HSH 1200 DS hoppers will start work in April and May 2015 on an existing factory pier in Rio Grande. They will operate in pairs consisting of one of each device for simultaneous handling on two bulk ships up to the Panama Canal.
