Paceco España goes West
Spain-based Paceco España is to supply one of its Portainer STS cranes for a new multi-cargo sea terminal in Aruba, marking its first contract overseas after concentrating on the European market in recent years.
The 13-row wide crane will be built for Aruba Stevedoring Company (ASTEC NV) to a twin box boom type design, with an outreach of 39m and a 20m rail span. The maximum lift capacity will be 40 tonnes under single lift spreader and up to 35 tonnes under the cargo beam.
Mike de L’isle, managing director, ASTEC NV, said: “Together with a solid and robust technological offer, attractive commercial terms and the flexibility to work with our project specific conditions, they surfaced as the clear winner out of several participating parties.”
ASTEC NV’s crane will be equipped with state-of-the-art features including a high-quality AC control system, an ergonomic driver’s cabin, advanced position control systems and LED lighting, among others.
The company says measures will be taken at the design and construction stage to ensure best performance, sustainability and durability of the crane and its components, which will be exposed to Aruba’s corrosive high winds and extreme UV radiation during the crane’s expected 25-year life span.
“We are confident that with Paceco we now have the right ship-to-shore crane partner as we embark on our journey to realise our new terminal in Barcadera in the coming years,” added Mr de L’isle.
ASTEC NV’s order is part of the multi-million dollar project awarded by the Aruba Ports Authority to the company to build, finance, operate and maintain the new terminal in Barcadera under long-term concession. Aruba Ports Authority says the project is vital for the diversification of Aruba’s economy and future growth.
