Kalmars record reachstacker lift

But even before the corks finished popping, Kalmar executives were already hinting of bigger things to come.

Dan Pettersson, senior vice president of Kalmar mobile equipment, told Port Strategy: “We can go bigger. Super Gloria can safely lift up to 120 tonnes and if the customer has requirements for even heavier loads we will of course talk.”

Stefan Johansson, director, Sales and Marketing, Kalmar Reachstackers and Empty Container Handlers, added: “I’m sure it’s not the last record we set.”

The first order for the world’s largest reachstacker is for a steel mill outside of Hannover, Germany. Broken down, Super Gloria will need six trucks for onward transportation to its new home.

Commenting on the Kalmar reachstacker range, Mr Johansson said: “We have a really full range of reachstackers and have 40% of the market share. We have made 9,000 reachstackers since we started and have over 30 years experience. When it comes to the future we spend a lot of energy and resources on new technology.”

The rapid growth in the size of reachstackers has been driven by customers, according to Mikael Andersson, Kalmar reachstacker and EC Handlers product manager. “Wind power customers are searching for 80t-120t capacity machines,” he said, adding that Super Gloria is particularly suited to industrial applications.
