Interactive truck training
The importance of training is paramount to achieving efficient operations and terminal productivity, but the issue of how it is delivered is quite complex and can be expensive and ineffective if it’s approached in the wrong way.
To this end, the Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) at Maasvlakte 2, approached the Seaport Group to provide it with a training solution to help increase productivity and mitigate against truck congestion at the terminal.
Kent Busk, Seaport Group, told Port Strategy that originally the plan was to come up with an interactive video for truckers which could be used as part of the training assessment at the terminal. But instead he suggested an interactive smartphone training app that can be used “on the go” because truckers don’t stand still.
“What’s more, studies have shown that retention rates using apps sit at about 80% rather than 20% for videos. This app is a game-changer because it brings e-learning to a new level for terminals, training can be completed at home or on the go. It’s easy to roll out and it’s competitively priced,” Mr Busk told PS.
Seaport was tasked with developing the app in just 12 weeks. At the moment it only exists in the Dutch language, but the plan is to roll it out on a much more global scale.
The Seaport Group is an association of four independent consulting companies. It specialises in conducting port market and feasibility studies, port management and operations evaluations, as well as container terminal planning and wide-ranging logistics studies.
