GPA takes second bite with Identec

Georgia Port Authority has returned to Identec for process automation technology for new ship-to-shore and rubber-tyred gantry cranes at Savannah.

GPA – a customer of Identec since 2008 – already makes use of RFID-based street truck identification, plus DGPS position detection for RTG yard cranes and terminal vehicles, through its Automated Terminal Asset Management System.

Currently, trucks that call at GPA’s Garden City Terminal in Savannah are fitted with Identec’s active RFID tags, which allows them to be tracked in real-time as they enter, move around and exit the terminal.

Under this new contract, the port will install the automated container hand-off and job promotion system on 30 new RTGs and on four new super-post-panamax quay cranes.
