Greece crippled by port strikes

ISS have confirmed to Port Strategy that no vessel movements will take place during the strike period which is scheduled to run from 06:00 local time on 12 November.

It will effect both the private and public sector services including; local ferries, local airports, tug boats pilots in all Greek ports, public transportation services and hospitals.

The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) called the strike into action in response to the government’s planned changes to labour and insurance rights, pensions and retirement ages, and the privatisation of Greece’s main ports.

Vessels will not be able to berth, shift or sail from ports or terminals until 06:00 on 13 November when strike action is expected to end.
