New green cruise terminal

Øra quay, opened on 27 November, cost US$7.2m to build with state-of-the-art mooring and foam fenders.

Caroline Pettersen, cruise sales manager at the port, said: “I am thrilled about the opportunity this gives us in Fredrikstad Cruise Port to welcome new ships and offer modern facilities to the cruise lines, like fresh water supplies, waste handling and bunker oil available from a barge.”

She added: “We can also offer LNG supplied by trucks. This new, state-of-the-art, sustainable port terminal will benefit all our cruise guests. For Fredrikstad Cruise Port this is a milestone that takes us one step closer to our position as the gateway to the gateway to the Oslofjord.”

The dock has a depth of 12.5m which enables it to accommodate cruise ships of up to 290m with a draft of 8m.

Øra is located nearby the city of Fredrikstad in Norway which provides railway and main highway connections to the old town of Fredrikstad and the Oslofjord region. This provides good connections for operators wanting to offer shore excursions as part of its cruise operations.

The port is a member of both Cruise Norway and Cruise Europe, seemingly the Øra quay will help to improve the economic value of the cruise industry at Fredrikstad Cruise Port.
